Empowering women through education
At Li & Fung, we believe in empowering women to make positive change in the communities we operate in. In 2013, we partnered with the Asian University for Women (AUW), an international school based in Bangladesh that brings together women from many of the countries we source from, to help them obtain university education.
Each year we set up internships for these remarkable students across our business. Our 2016 intake includes 22 year-old Chathuri Weerasinghe from Sri Lanka.
Chathuri is majoring in Environmental Sciences with a minor in Public Health and Developmental Studies. She says her mother is inspiring her to reach her full potential.
“My mother is a brilliant, strong woman, but she never had this kind of education but wanted me to have one. The AUW is teaching me how to be confident and a leader, and of course I want to work for my community, but first I want to be a good leader for my mother”
