LF Beauty opens new LEED Platinum certified R&D facility in Thailand

Hong Kong, 2 September 2015 – LF Beauty (a Li & Fung Company) today announced the official opening of a new research and development facility in Thailand that has also been awarded LEED® Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The R&D facility scored 92 out of a total 110 points, the highest score obtained among ten other LEED Platinum certified projects in Thailand.

“Sustainability is integral to our business,” said Spencer Fung, Group Chief Executive Officer, Li & Fung. “We always look for new ways to integrate sustainability features into how we design, build and renovate our spaces to reduce our environmental footprint and maintain a healthy, safe and aesthetically-pleasing work environment for our people. It is a great honor that the new R&D facility for LF Beauty in Thailand has achieved the highest level of LEED certification.”

“Innovation is an important driver in our ability to bring unique products to the market, so we are very excited to be opening our second R&D facility in Thailand. This new facility truly demonstrates our commitment to manage our operations responsibly for the wellbeing of the community, the environment and our people,” said Gerard Raymond, President, LF Beauty.

Located in Lamlukka, Pathumthani province in Thailand, the two-story, 5,080 square foot facility consists of laboratories for formula development and testing, product showrooms, an idea & concept generation lab, raw and packaging materials storage and stability rooms, a library, as well as office and meeting areas.

The facility adopts environmentally-responsible materials, such as highly reflective glazing materials used for windows and walls that block 30% more solar heat radiance against ordinary glazing, as well as glass walls and windows that maximize natural light. A rooftop solar PV renewable energy source system converts sunlight to generate 48,214 kWH of electricity per year, representing 40% of the designed annual electrical energy required by the facility. Abundant fresh air is continuously introduced into the building’s ventilation system and the installation of carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors constantly monitor and ensure CO2 levels are kept at or below required limits in offices, laboratories and meeting rooms. These are just a few examples of the kinds of sustainability measures that contribute to the R&D facility’s Platinum recognition.

“LF Beauty’s LEED Platinum certification for its new R&D facility in Thailand demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and founding chair, USGBC.
